high school placement test (HSPT)

Ready to start preparing for the HSPT?  We’ve put together a comprehensive program to help you prepare for this exam and get you accepted into the Catholic high school of your choice.  The HSPT is a comprehensive placement test for eighth graders for placement in the ninth grade. The following Catholic high schools in Miami utilize the High School Placement Test (HSPT) as their official entrance exam to assist with admissions, scholarship selection, and curriculum placement. :

About The Test

When preparing for a standardized test, it is important to understand the exam's format.  The HSPT is approximately 2.5 hours and contains 298 multiple-choice questions divided into the following five subtests:

Verbal Skills (60 questions / 16 min)

 The questions in this section test your ability to perform reasoning tasks that involve the use of words. Here’s a look at the specific topics that will be covered:

  • Synonyms
  • Antonyms
  • Analogy
  • Verbal Classification
  • Verbal Logic

Quantitative Skills (52 questions / 30 min)

 The questions in this section test your ability to do reasoning problems that involve various quantities. Here’s a look at the specific topics that will be covered:

  • Sequences
  • Reasoning
  • Geometric Comparison
  • Non-Geometric Comparison

Reading (62 questions / 25 min)

 The questions in this section test your ability to comprehend various aspects of a text. Here’s a look at the specific topics that will be covered:

  • Informational text
  • Craft and structure
  • Integration of ideas
  • Literary text
  • Literary techniques
  • Vocabulary

Mathematics (64 questions / 45 min)

 The questions in this section test your ability to perform arithmetic calculations and apply math concepts to solve problems. Here’s a look at the specific topics that will be covered:

  • Numbers and numeration
  • Measurements
  • Geometry
  • Algebra
  • Statistics and Probability

Language (60 questions / 25 min)

The questions in this section test your general language knowledge and skills. Here’s a look at the specific topics that will be covered:
